Phyllis May (Bair) (Phillips) Jasmin, 94, passed away on Friday, January 12th, in Irvine, California.Phyllis was born on Dec. 27, 1929, to Chauncey Eugene Bair and Rhea Garnet (Curry) Beaver in Ohio. After graduation from high school in Wellsville, Ohio, Phyllis went on to get her BA with teaching credentials at Kent State and earned her Master’s in Psychology from Youngstown State. With her education and compassion for children Phyllis worked as a psychologist for a private practice, worked at the mental health clinic as well as an officer of the Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division.Upon leaving Ohio, Phyllis settled in California and built a life focused on volunteer work. While living in Pasadena, Phyllis’ interest in architecture grew and she became a docent at The Gamble House. Upon moving to Newport Beach, Phyllis along with husband Len Jasmin became members of the Bahia Carinthian Yacht Club, where they found a place to share their passion for the sea with others including her family. She encouraged involvement in holiday boat parades, sailing lessons, and many afternoons out on the water. Phyllis was also able to combine her love of water with a love of traveling and meeting new people by taking cruises around the world. Phyllis is survived by three children, Deborah Lee Phillips, Christopher Andrew Phillips, Todd Alan Phillips; five grandchildren, Thomas Phillips, Scott Lanway, Alexandra Clark, Harrison Phillips, Megan Phillips; two great-grandchildren, Macon Clark, and Magnolia Clark; 2 half siblings, Wanda J Bair and Edward Bair.She was preceded in death by husband Len Jasmin and son David Thomas Phillips; and 2 half siblings, Chauncey Eugene Bair, Jr. and James Alan Bair. In lieu of flowers the family request that any donation be made to a local humane society.
