Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Gather ’round for another exhilarating journey guided by none other than yours truly – The Monthly Traveler. As your trusty navigator through unique Day-Cations, Stay-Caytions, and Play-cations in Southern California, I’ve got a two-day adventure that’ll make your heart race and your spirit soar!
Our last escapade took us off the mainland to the beautiful Catalina Island, and now, we’re gearing up for a new expedition that’s sure to wet your whistle. Picture this: we’re about to set forth from the vibrant city of Los Angeles, on a wine country road trip like no other. Our destination? California’s most iconic wine region, and the crown jewel of American wine, Napa Valley.
If you’re one of those intrepid souls who reveled in the wine-tasting delights of Ojai during one of our past escapades, this Napa adventure is tailor-made to captivate your senses once again. So, fellow wanderers, fasten your seatbelts and join me as we embark on a grand voyage through vineyard-draped landscapes, picturesque vistas, and a world of flavors waiting to be discovered.
Let’s hit the road!
Settled over 400 miles away from Los Angeles, this world renowned wine region is located in Napa County, 50 miles northeast of San Francisco. For a swifter journey, a flight of less than 2 hours can do the trick, but then you would miss all the beauty and fun on the open road. Although the drive is a little over 6-hours, I can promise you it’s truly worth it.
While we could choose the familiar coastal route along the 101, like we did for our Solvang trip, this time, we’re opting for the inland path via the 5. This alternate route not only offers a change of scenery but also promises a fresh perspective on California’s beauty. So why rush when you can savor the journey alongside me, The Monthly Traveler?
Going up North!
Venturing into Northern California is an enchanting shift from the dynamic landscape of Southern California. When we think of Nor-Cal, cities like San Francisco, Oakland, and Sacramento come to mind, bringing with them a distinctive change in energy and surroundings. Our route takes us through Livermore, Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, and Concord – towns that lay off the beaten path yet carry their own unique charm. As we traverse these locales, you’ll sense the subtle shift in atmosphere, setting the stage for an exciting transition. Beyond Suisun Bay, through Creston, we finally arrive in Napa Valley, where a world of exploration awaits. Hope you’re ready because our first stop is sure to take you on an adventure!

Good morning, fellow adventurers! The allure of a fresh Napa day is upon us, with its golden sun and promises of more treasures to uncover. Let’s ease into this delightful day, shall we?
Start your morning with a leisurely visit to our first stop Ritual Coffee Roasters, tucked away in the heart of Oxbow Public Market. Sip on a perfectly brewed cup and savor a delectable pastry that’s sure to ignite your senses.
Wine done right!
Once you’re recharged, our second destination is the enchanting Neal Family Vineyards. This remarkable vineyard boasts over 50 years of organic farming prestige and recently achieved the coveted title of the first Regenerative Organic Certified vineyard in Napa Valley. It’s a distinction held by only a select few worldwide.
Picture yourself strolling through vineyards that thrive on mindful farming, where the earth’s harmony is embraced in every grape. The Neal Family Vineyards story is one of commitment to the land and a legacy of crafting ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon that truly reflects the essence of Napa.
Guided by owner Mark Neal, a vintner with a rich family heritage, you’ll discover how biodynamic and certified organic vineyards create wines that are a testament to nature’s wisdom and human dedication.
Although we can enjoy an all-day conversation with Mark, while indulging in immaculate wines, we must sadly put our glasses down and head over to our next grape location, but don’t hesitate to purchase some of their wonderful offerings right here.
Caves, Cuisine, and Conversation
From Neal Family Vineyards, our adventure continues seamlessly to our third stop, B Cellars Vineyard and Winery, where Napa’s rich legacy blends harmoniously with modern innovation. This extraordinary twelve-acre estate presents a captivating fusion of rustic allure and contemporary comfort.

Each sip transports you to the very heart of Napa’s winemaking heritage, as you relish in the depth and flavors of varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Proprietary Blends, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.
But the experience doesn’t stop at wine; delve deeper into the intricate story of B Cellars as you explore their aging caves. These winding passageways hold not only history but also the promise of what’s to come—a journey that pays homage to the age-old tradition of winemaking.
And then there’s the culinary magic that awaits. Imagine a thoughtfully curated lunchtime wine and food pairing, where every bite and sip becomes a harmonious symphony. Satisfyingly Stuffed
After a satisfying small bite and wine pairing at B Cellars, it’s time to venture back into town. Now, even though some of you might find your appetite pleasantly fulfilled, the undeniable truth remains: there’s simply no way you can visit Napa without experiencing the iconic Gott’s Roadside Diner.
Imagine this – you’re driving through the valley, your senses still tingling from the delectable wine and mouthwatering pairings. You might be thinking you’ve had your fill, but then you catch the enticing aroma of gourmet delights wafting through the air. It’s that irresistible scent of classic American comfort food – perfectly seasoned burgers, golden fries, and indulgent milkshakes – drawing you towards Gott’s Roadside.
Even if you’re tempted to say you couldn’t possibly manage another bite or another sip, the allure of Gott’s is practically impossible to resist. You might choose to take your meal to go, allowing yourself the luxury of savoring those delectable flavors in the comfort of your hotel room. This, my fellow travelers, marks the fifth and final stop of our exhilarating Day 2, a journey that’s taken us through the very heart and soul of Napa’s most remarkable offerings.
