A 44-year-old Newport Beach man was arrested Wednesday evening after a stand-off with authorities, leaving one of the suspect’s dogs injured after it was shot in the leg by police.
Officers responded to a domestic violence call around 6:32 p.m. on the 2000 block of Nautilus Lane, where police said the suspect refused to exit the residence, leading to an increased police presence in the area. Shots were fired by police after the suspect released his dogs on the police officers — leaving one dog injured in the leg, Sgt. Steve Oberon said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges.
No additional information was available.
