The Presbyterian Women’s group at Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church recently launched its annual “Knock Your Socks Off” campaign.
Donations of new socks and underwear for adults and kids are currently being collected through the end of January.
These items will be distributed to the Shower Plus Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Garden Grove, which offers hot showers, breakfast and clothing to those experiencing homelessness. Socks and underwear for kids will also be distributed to Melrose Elementary for students in need.
Anyone in the community who would like to donate socks and/or underwear to these outreach ministry causes, can drop them off at the designated table on the patio area in front of the Sanctuary during Sunday worship services between 10 and 11 a.m.
For additional information or to arrange a donation drop off at the church office, call 714-637-7660 or visit canyonhillspc.org. The church is on Fairmont Boulevard and Santa Ana Canyon Road.

Connect with other writers

Writer’s Block will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 14 and 28 and is open to those 12 and older. Library officials describe it as an opportunity to join other writers, learn helpful information and have a space to write.

Kids can race at the library
Another fun event planned at the East Anaheim branch library is a Mario Kart tournament, presented by the Young Adult Council.
This video game event at 2 p.m. on Jan. 20 will be open to all kids in the community.
Players will be divided into age groups for the fun competition. Amazon gift cards will be awarded to first and second place winners.

Food sought for weekly pantry

Other items needed include hygiene products and grocery store gift cards. Chat books each month
If you enjoy reading, you might consider attending the next adult book club at the Canyon Hills Library.
The Talk and Treats book group meets monthly to participate in a lively discussion of that month’s book selection.
The group meets next on Jan. 18, at noon, in the library’s multi-purpose room. January’s book selection is “The Girls from Corona del Mar” by Rufi Thorpe. Check out a copy of the book and join the discussion.
Refreshments are provided. For additional information, call the branch at 714-765-6444.
Shop for books, help the library
Members of the Friends of Canyon Hills Library are planning their first flash sale of the new year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 23 and 24 the branch.
Choose from a wide selection of books in various categories, all at bargain prices. In addition to the book sale, you also have the chance to peruse the Friends’ boutique, which features many unique items.
Proceeds from the sale help the nonprofit Friends group to provide various services and programs at the Canyon Hills branch benefitting the entire community. Some of these include children’s summer reading programs, cultural programs for both adults and children, fees for author’s visits and refreshments.
Call the library for more info at 714-765-6444.
