Community enjoys holidays at Canyon Hills Library

The Canyon Hills Library transformed into a winter wonderland during its recent Holidays in the Hills event that attracted more than 200 jolly visitors.

Upon entering the inaugural holiday event, kids were immediately directed by the head crafting elf, Library Technician Amanda Packard, to Santa’s Workshop for creating crafts representing Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

Younger visitors found a fun playtime in the children’s space at the Reindeer and Friends Stables with puppets, a pop-up barn, visits with Santa and photo opportunities assisted by Santa’s head wrangler, Children’s Librarian Jennifer DeBaun-Holm.

Everyone had the chance to enjoy hot cocoa and treats in the Outdoor Reading Garden hosted by the library’s teen volunteers under the direction of Librarian Jessika Martinez and Library Assistant Carl Salbacka. Friends of Canyon Hills Library members Louise Fry, Diane Shannon and Barb Wahlbrink provided the delicious cookies and caramel corn.

The special holiday program culminated with families grabbing refreshments and gathering together to watch the movie “Elf,” that was projected onto the outdoor movie screen. Canyon Hills Library staff credits the success of the holiday event to the financial and volunteer support from Friends group, the hard-working staff and communications team for promoting and photographing the event.
