A more than four-decade-old tradition of celebrating African American pride and community in Orange County continues on Saturday, Feb. 3.
The 44th annual Orange County Black History Parade & Unity Festival will be held in downtown Anaheim, with the parade stepping off at 10 a.m.
The events are organized by the Orange County Heritage Council; they moved from Santa Ana to Anaheim 12 years ago.
Big Boy, whose voice has been heard on morning radio here and across the country for years, is the grand marshal of the parade, which will travel Anaheim Boulevard from Lincoln Avenue south to Santa Ana Street.
Organizers said the parade lasts about an hour and will feature marching bands, dance teams, double Dutch squads, community groups, dignitaries and more.
The celebration then continues with the Unity Festival along the nearby Center Street Promenade. The street fair ends at 4 p.m.
There will be dozens of booths featuring arts and crafts, games, food and more. The fair will also feature health and youth villages, three stages of entertainment and a cultural stage hosting “guest speakers, artists and Black history discussions.”
